GB3VHF & GB3UHF service news and announcements

GB3VHF: The GB3VHF beacon commenced operation from the Fairseat site at 17:00 hours UTC on the 27th April 2010, and is currently in service and operating correctly according to its published specifications.

GB3UHF: The GB3UHF beacon commenced operation from the Fairseat site at 09:45 hours UTC on the 15th June 2016, and is currently in service and operating correctly according to its published specifications except that the beacon carrier frequency is 200Hz high which is due to a software error common also to GB3NGI and GB3LEU and all beacons use the same hardware and software. This is being investigated with a view to correcting the problem on all three beacons. More news as we make progress.

If at any time the beacons appears to be off the air (provided that I have either observed or been notified of the situation), then I will endevour to give you up to date information on this webpage as soon as practically possible. If you find either beacon off the air then please do send me an e-mail letting me know, as I may be unaware of the outage. My e-mail address can be found on the 'Contact the beacon keeper' page.

Unfortunately, I am not notified in advance of any electricity company scheduled power outages and therefore both of the beacons may be subject to these disruptions from time to time.

The site sharers hut is not supplied with electricity from the BT radio station but independantly via overhead lines, so no back up generator supply is available. This also means that the electricity supply is more vulnerable to lightning surges and other storm damage etc. A UPS has now been installed to deal with any short term power cuts and 'brown outs'.
